Amelia tells a story about my childhood. I grew up in a small town on the outskirts of Cincinnati. I lived in a ranch house with my brother, sister and my parents. We lived on a dead end street with other mid-century modern houses but we had an extra “lot” next to our yard. That overgrown lot had a path through it and in the center there was a mud pond. As a small child running down that path to the puddle seemed magical! Dragonflies, butterflies, bugs, summer sun. My collie dog with me. Endless days. All of that is in this painting. Although the figure looks more like me in high school! Some of it might be covered up in the layering, like my poor pup! But he’s in there! In one of the layers.
